As we are MicroStrategy fans we always get excited with Tim Lang’s newsletters. Especially the ones that present new MicroStrategy features.
The newest CTO Newsletter about MicroStrategy Update 3 can be found here. As always it describes current news and gives us a sneak a peek at the upcoming features. This time it mentions information windows in Update 4! For those who worked with RSDs you will be familiar with this feature and how cool and useful it is.
It is basically an extension of drilling without having to slide out of view. There’s a lot of really cool things you can do with them.
The best part is that we do not have to wait for update 4 to test it – we can do it now!
To do this, you need to download the newest version of Workstation, open the workstation window and go to Help > Preview Features.
Then when you create a new dossier in Workstation, an information window icon appears:
When you add a new information window to a dossier, it will appear at the layers panel. Information window, just like in RSD, is a panel stack so it can have multiple tabs and it inherits all properties that come with panel stack in dossiers.
When your information window is ready, you can then assign it to your visualizations. It works unfortunately only with visualisations and not with other type of objects like text boxes or images. For this we have a special javascript workaround that will be posted soon, so check our page for updates.
Step by step we are getting to a point that dossiers might replace entirely RSDs. Is Transaction Service will be included in the new platform release? We really hope so!
